Glock 43 New In Box - In 1980, Glock Ges.m.b.H was founded in response to an official invitation from the Austrian Army to submit a new gun design for testing. The corporation was a subsidiary of Glock, KG, a manufacturing company founded in 1963 by the brilliant engineer Gaston Glock, whose specialty was innovation in polymers.
Since he had no experience with firearms, Gaston assembled a consultant and design team, and produced a working prototype in 3 months. A year later, the Glock 17 (G17) was born ("17" refers to the 17th patent Gaston received in his career), and in 1983 the "Safe Action" 9mm polymer percussion pistol became a pistol official of the Austrian army!

In 1985, 17 became commercially available in the US and quickly gained a large share of the police and civilian markets. In 1988, the G19 was introduced, a compact version of the 17. Then, in response to the demand for small carry pistols, the G26 subcompact was released in 1995.

The 17, 19 and 26 are all in 9mm and have two magazines. A double magazine, by its very nature, requires a wide grip/frame and is not a compact design for many who carry it on a daily basis. Since the introduction of the 26, many Glock fans have wondered why Glock did not offer a gun that could carry a single column of 9mm magazines.
Glock, no doubt realizing the market share they were losing to guns like the Smith & Wesson Shield and Ruger LC9, introduced the G43 this year. …Sure, about two decades after the first customer request, but better late than never!
The Glock 43 is a single stage 9mm based on the same pistol design that Glock is known for. Labeled the Subcompact Slimline, it measures 43 6 ¼" tall, 4 ¼" tall, 1 inch wide and weighs 1.2 lbs unloaded, making for a GREAT hidden package.
As with everything in this business, you don't gain anything - to make a smaller, smaller gun, you give up power.
Glock 43 9mm With Two Magazines, Box And No Paperwork Or Fired Case
But, with 6 in the magazine and one in the magazine, it is good when there are many guns in its class.
The gun comes with two magazines - one with a flat base plate and the other with a finger extension. Recoil is very small for a small, light gun, however, in my case the avage provided by the finger extension baseplate makes a huge difference in being able to control the gun quickly.
Factory replacement tanks aren't cheap - $30 for standard and $36 for extended plate versions. And with my usual recommendation of 10 magazines for each gun you own, that's a small investment.
Holster makers are still catching up - Comptac, along with many others, offer at least one or two of their most popular holsters in the 43. Flashbang is also offering their popular holster.

The gun is easy to hold; even those who don't like Glock ergonomics may like this one better (note the lack of finger grooves molded into the grip.)
Accuracy is often a topic in gun reviews like this, and I think it's given a lot of credence, because most modern self-defense guns are more accurate than 99.8% of the people who buy them. "Accuracy tests" make for good copy and give people something to talk about online, but for our purposes, most guns made by reputable manufacturers will do the job regardless of how they rate in gun publications.
That being said, here are some pictures of my first time out with 43. (I emphasize that this is my personal gun that I bought. I don't get anything free from Glock.) No sandbags, chronographs, punching shots. , or warm-up purposes are used.
The author team of 49 rounds from 4 yards. Shooting is done in "rapid fire", standing, and moving out x after 4 shots with a full load. No problems, the gun worked perfectly.
Upgraded Glock 43 With Extras
I emphasize the thorough evaluation of all the tools and equipment our lives depend on, including the protective gear we carry every day. Yes, shooting a few rounds in your high performance hollowpoints will cost a few bucks, but just hoping your ammo will make it into your gun during the time your life depends on it is a hobbyist's job.
Author 5-shot Corbon DPX group from 4 yards, slow fire. DPX is his favorite load to carry, and the 43 fed it without a problem.
I put 250 rounds through the gun the first day and had no mechanical problems. My way of handling new guns is to warm them up quickly. Generally, if failure is to occur, heat will accelerate its occurrence. The 200 rounds that were fired at the rate that the assistant could fill the magazines certainly had the desired effect.
Overall, I found the G43 to be exactly what I would expect from a Glock, and I was surprised at how well the recoil control was done in such a small, lightweight package. The trigger is factory set at 5.5lbs (mine feels a little heavy - maybe just my imagination) and the reset is the crisp, sharp snap that Glock is known for. The only downside I can think of is that the factory nightstands are still unavailable.
Glock G43x Subcompact Semi Auto Pistol
Since the 43 is still a new offering, it might be best to wait 6 months or so before buying to see if any issues or recalls occur, but I doubt we'll hear about anything. I'll keep trying to crack mine - I'll let you know if I succeed!
